PAK, B. H., S. S. HONG, H. EL PAK, AND S. K. HONG. Effects of acetazolumide and acid-base changes on Mary and pancreatic smefion. Am, Jm Physiol. 210(3): 624-628. Ig66.-Effects of acetazolamide and acid-base changes on the flow and the composition of hepatic bile and pancreatic juice were studied in 24 anesthetized dogs. Acetazolamide slightly augmented the bile flow but reduced the fiow response of the pancreas to secretin. Normally, there was a characteristic flow-composition relationship such that an increase in the flow was accompanied by an increase in (HCO-3) of both bile and pancreatic juice and by a fall in (Cl-) in pancreatic juice and an increase in bile (Cl-). Acetazolamide disrupted the normal flow-composition relationship in such a way that for a given flow (HCOm3) was lowered whereas (Cl-) was elevated. When plasma (HCO-3) was varied by inducing metabolic acidosis or alkalosis, it was observed that the fow and (HCO-3) in bile and pancreatic juice were proportional to plasma (HCO-3) even in the presence of acetazolamide. This apparent dependence of flow on plasma (HCO-3) was much more distinct in pancreas than in bile.

Salvianolic acid B improves insulin secretion from interleukin 1β-treated rat pancreatic islets: The role of PI3K-Akt signaling

Background and Objective: Oxidative stress induced by proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β plays a major role in β-cell destruction in diabetes type 1. Salvianolic acid B (Sal B) is a polyphenolic compound with antioxidant and protective effects. Thus, objective of this study was to assess the protection exerted by Sal B on isolated rat islets exposed to IL-1β and to investigate an underlyin...

Effects of branched-chain amino acid deficiency in diets on growth factors, pancreatic enzymes activity and whole body proximate of Sobaity seabream juvenile (Sparidentex hasta)

On the current study the effects of reducing branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) in diets of Sobaity sea bream in a constant level (40%) on growth and nutritional indices, pancreatic enzymes activity, whole body chemical proximate and amino acids, was assessed. This experiment was conducted in Marine Fish Research Station of Imam Khomeini harbor during July and August of 2014. For these purposes,...

Effect of Diclofenac Suppository on Treatment of Acute Biliary Pancreatitis

Background and Aim: Acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory pancreatic disease that is associated with low or no fibrosis of the pancreas. Standard non-surgical treatment in all patients involves correcting water and electrolyte disorders, pain relief and avoiding pancreatic secretion. Given that pancreatitis is an inflammatory process, and NSAIDs have been shown to modulate inflammatory processe...

Some physiological observations on the exocrine pancreas. The effects of some agents on pancreatic secretion.

Many problems are left unsolved on the exocrine pancreas. Pancreatic secretion is controlled by various factors while maintaining close relations with neighbouring organs. From the view point that the stomach and the pancreas are closely associated by way of gastrointestinal hormones, the factors involved in the mechanism of pancreatic secretion were investigated experimentally and clinically b...

Improvement of the functionality of pancreatic Langerhans islets via reduction of bacterial contamination and apoptosis using phenolic compounds

Objective(s): During type-1 diabetes treating by pancreatic islet transplantation, increasing oxidative stress and microbial contaminations are the main reasons of transplantation failure. In this study, we evaluated anti-apoptotic, antioxidant and antimicrobial potentials of phenolic compounds called ellagic acid (EA) and silybin on rat pancreatic islets. Materials and Methods: By doing MTT as...
